But with the PS5 Slim, the company aims to offer players a more practical experience while maintaining an attractive look.
Volume and Weight Reduction
This new version of the PlayStation 5 maintains Sony's strategy of offering options with and without Blu-Ray disc support.
The main difference is that the PS5 Slim has 30% less volume compared to the original model and is 18% lighter in the case of the version with disc support and 24% lighter in the digital version.
Optional Disc Reader
The disc reader, an interesting addition, can be purchased separately and connected to the PS5 Slim Digital Edition, instead of being a traditional USB device.
The Blu-Ray player is designed to fit neatly into the side of the console, providing a seamless look, rather than being a traditional USB device.
Improved Design
The design of the PS5 Slim also stands out for its side faceplates.
But instead of two single pieces, the slim version adopts four side covers.
The tops have a glossy finish, while the bottoms maintain the standard PlayStation 5's matte texture.
Then a groove divides the two “sessions” of faceplates.
The circular base, another new feature, allows you to position the console vertically, and this base will also be sold separately.
Specifications Maintained
Sony highlights that the PS5 Slim continues to offer the same advanced technologies that make the original PS5 one of the best for gaming.
It includes an attachable Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc drive and a 1TB SSD for internal storage.
But the PS5 Slim will replace the regular version of the PlayStation 5 when current stock runs out, making it the only model available on the market.
Names and Prices
It is important to note that Sony does not use the term “Slim” in its promotional materials.
But Sony simply describes the versions as PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition.
Prices for the new versions and accessories are as follows:
- PS5 with disc player: US$ 499.99;
- PS5 Digital Edition: US$ 449.99;
- Separate disc player: US$ 74.99;
- New base for PS5: US$ 29.99.
Sony has scheduled the launch of the PS5 Slim for November, although it has not yet released the exact date.
But this revised version offers a more compact and affordable alternative for gamers looking to try out the PlayStation 5.
